C.S. Lewis is one of the most influential Christians ever, authoring works like Mere Christianity and The Chronicles of Narnia, but it wasn't always that way for him. Lewis was once a committed atheist with no intention of promoting Christianity. After the hardships of World War I, Lewis believed Christianity was nothing more than a myth. His plan for life was simple: become a respected professor teaching great works of writing. But God had a different purpose.
We may be confident that our life is going to go a certain way such as working a certain career we have in mind and starting a family in the city of our choice. But God may have a different purpose for you. Who knows better: us or God? When we read Proverbs 19:21 we should feel comforted knowing that when (not if) our plans change that God's purpose is ultimately for the best. God's plans for us are full of goodness and hope (Jeremiah 29:11). Let's trust in Him and His prevailing purposeful plans.
Today's Challenge
Spend a few minutes reflecting on a past detour that actually led to something better. Thank God for His intervention in that moment. Use that memory as fuel to trust Him with your current circumstances, knowing that His track record of goodness remains unchanged for you.
